A new verification system launched for the Mobile sim in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with Cellular Mobile and Wireless Local Loop Operators, has implemented a Biometric Verification System (BVS) to carry out transactions after NADRA online verification. Biometrics enables a person to be recognized and authenticated using recognizable and verifiable data that is unique, particular, and authentic.
Except for Karachi, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has granted other operators till December 20 to implement the biometric system in the country. The deadline for Karachi is November 30. The five operators including Jazz, Ufone, Zong, Telenor, and others are set to fulfill the deadline.

Reason of verification

The reason for this verification is to carry out the Following Transactions:
1. Purchase/Activate a New SIM/WLL Connection

2. Obtain a Duplicate SIM/WLL Connection

3. Change of Ownership of a SIM/WLL Connection

4. Portability of mobile phone numbers (MNP)

5. Reverification of SIM/ WLL Connection

However, even after the biometric authentication, The PTA’s established SIM ownership verification system 667 in 2008 will remain constant. To obtain a SIM, a client had to present the original CNIC as well as a thumbprint. It is a procedure for determining how many SIM cards are registered to a single CNIC. A SIM card that is not in use by the subscriber can be blocked. Along with this, another system 789 will remain constant. In the same year, a system was created in which a client had to phone and answer a few questions such as mother’s maiden name and place of birth recorded by Nadra at the time of CNIC issue.
