How to Use Android Without Google

When we hear anything about an Android phone, one thing comes immediately to mind: Google. Some people believe that there is no Android without Google, but we are here to prove them wrong since today’s article will teach you how to use your Android smartphone without Google.

Method#1: Don’t sign in or enable backups during setup.

When you initially turn on your phone or conduct a factory reset for your phone, you will be prompted to sign in with a Google account. All you need to do is skip this option. Your phone can function without a Google account, and you may add additional accounts to fill your contacts and other apps requirements. Skip the options such as backing up your data to Google and so forth.

Method#2: Hide or remove Google apps

This may be tricky in some android phones as different android phones have different features but here are two ways to do it.

By rooting your phone to remove all Google apps:

If you actually want to be free of Google’s Gmail, Calendar, Maps, and other services, you will need to provide yourself deep access to the phone’s internals, a process known as “rooting.” The intricacy of rooting varies with every phone, but once done, you may disable Google’s built-in applications as well as anything else your carrier or manufacturer installed. You may also install a totally different operating system, such as CyanogenMod, which will not install Google Apps unless you actually ask for it.

Hiding Google’s apps with an alternate launcher:

The section of your phone that displays app icons, widgets, and your app list is an app in and of itself, and you can replace it. Go Launcher EX and LauncherPro are two excellent alternatives that can be installed. Install either one, then touch your phone’s Home button to select either your default launcher or that app. Both applications let you hide apps from the app tray and alter app icons to remove any Google-like stylings.

Method#3: Get alternate apps

For almost every Google application available or installed by default on Android phones, an alternative application exists. Some are great, some are usable, and some will make you regret your decision of making your android free of Google. Here are some of the alternatives of Google apps.

  1. Gmail > Yahoo
  2. Maps > MapQuest
  3. Browser > Firefox/ Opera
  4. Search > Bing
  5. Calendar>  Exchange setup or anything web base
  6. YouTube > Web-based YouTube

Having a Google-free android device is not recommended to everyone as some of you may not enjoy a Google-free Android experience. In the end, you’ll probably conclude that the ease of Google’s products on your Android phone is appealing. However, you do not have to give Google every detail of your mobile life, and dispersing information among a few different applications might provide some peace of mind about your digital existence.
