How to Connect Desktop Keyboard to Android Device

Android devices have gone a long way, even replacing laptops and desktop computers for basic activities such as taking notes. Even with all of the advances, Android phones still fall short in one vital area that is typing. While touch typing is entertaining, your options are limited when compared to typing on a regular keyboard. But wouldn’t it be nice if you could connect a regular keyboard with a smartphone?

So why not. Lets us explain to you how you can do this.

Connect a USB Keyboard to an Android device via a USB OTG

It’s important to keep in mind that Android smartphones are thinner than the USB cable’s connection part. As a result, you will not be able to use your smartphone as a regular keyboard directly. However, you may use a USB On-the-Go (OTG) adaptor, which comes in a variety of forms and sizes.

A USB-to-Micro-USB adapter (for earlier phone models) or a USB-to-USB-C adapter are required (for newer phone models) You can buy this USB OTG online or from the closest computer accessory shop.

Once you get the USB OTG you have to follow these steps to connect a regular keyboard with your smartphone.

  1. Connect your phone to the micro-USB connector and your keyboard to the USB connector.
  2. The keyboard will automatically connect to your smartphone in the same way as it connects to your computer.

Connecting Bluetooth keyboard Android

A Bluetooth Keyboard, which is easier to use and much quicker to set up, can also be connected to your Android phone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. On both devices, turn on Bluetooth.
  2. Select the keyboard from the list of nearby Bluetooth devices. Provide a pin code if required. Normally, it’s “0000.”
  3. After the keyboard has been connected, you can begin typing.

Connecting PC keyboard to Android using WIFI

You can connect your PC and Android phone through Wi-Fi and transfer text from the PC to the phone with the help of an application. When you need to compose a long text on your phone, this approach is definitely the best option. There is an app called WIFI keyboard which allows you to move text from one browser window to another. After you’ve installed it, you’ll need to make it your default input method.

  1. Select Language & Input from the Settings menu.
  2. Choose your keyboard after tapping on the Current keyboard option.
  3. Now you are requireed to enable Wifi keyboard
  4. Select WiFi Keyboard from the Current keyboard option once more.
  5. When you open the WiFi Keyboard app, you’ll see two addresses (can also be accessed from notification bar). You can access the WiFi keyboard web interface by entering any of these addresses into your PC’s browser window.

Make sure to unplug the keyboard after usage because it drains the phone’s battery faster.

These three methods are very effective. If you have Bluetooth keyboards then connecting them with your smartphone is easier but if not then you can use the other two methods.
