Best Waterproof Mobiles in 2020

What are waterproof mobiles?

Having a water-resistant phone ensures that you can take images by the pool and your phone will

Survive any accidental liquid spillage. But before you purchase a waterproof smartphone, you must be able to distinguish between waterproof and a water-resistant smartphone and their IP levels.

IP Stands for “Ingress Protection,” the rating system that measures a smartphone’s level of protection against water and dirt.

Difference between a waterproof and a water-resistant phone:

A water-resistant smartphone is the one that can tolerate the intrusion of water to a certain degree, but not completely. However, Technically, waterproof ensures that it is safe, no matter how much time it spends in the water. But only phones rated as IP68 are safe to take into waters deeper than 3ft. Hence, phones with less than IP68 would not be able to survive in deep water for a long time.

So, let us look at some of the waterproof mobiles in 2020:

iPhone 11 pro max:

iPhone 11 pro max is one of the waterproof mobiles with a splash, water, and dust resistant and is checked under controlled regulatory laboratory conditions with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 according to which the phone can tolerate maximum depth of

4 meters up to 30 minutes. Well, that’s good enough because if you are using your iPhone 11 pro max in less than optimal environment or your mobile frequently faces unintentional liquid spill then you do not need to get a waterproof phone case. However, if you are a swimmer and you want to take your phone in the pool then it’s not a very good idea.

As already mentioned, that the phone can bare a maximum depth of 4 meters up to 30 minutes taking it with you during swimming is risky. Apple has already declared that liquid damage will not be covered under the warranty. Moreover, Apple has also advised taking some precautions with the wet iPhone 11 pro max such as, not charging the phone when it is wet and secondly rinse the affected area with tap water, then wipe your iPhone off and dry it before using it or opening the sim tray.

Samsung galaxy s20 ultra:

Samsung galaxy s20 ultra is one of the best waterproof phones you can purchase. The phone has an IP68 rating which means it can submerge in up to three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. However, much like Apple, Samsung does not suggest that the user to take the phone when swimming, but if anyone mistakenly takes the phone while swimming, the phone would be safe. Samsung will cancel the warranty if the mobile is damaged by water. Therefore, although the phone is waterproof you need to take all precautionary measures to protect it from dust and water.

Huawei p30 pro:

Huawei p30 pro is IP6X water and dust resistant which is a relief for those who often find themselves near water. This ensures that the handset will be able to function while 2 meters of underwater for up to 30 minutes.

However, it must be kept in mind that the Huawei P30 does not have an IP68 or an IP67 rating and instead comes with IP53 certification for dust and splash safety. It indicates that a few splashes of water would not damage the device, but you would not be able to embed your phone in water. Thus, we cannot call Huawei p30 pro waterproof, but it is water-resistant.

Oppo X2 pro:

Oppo X2 Pro has an IP68 which is tested under controlled laboratory conditions Compliant with

IEC 60529 standard. The phone can survive up to 1.5 meters deep for around 30 minutes in water.

It has also to be noted that splash, water, and dust resistance can decrease due to wear and tear over time. Also, you should not charge oppo x2 pro damp phone to avoid any damages. Just like Samsung and Apple, oppo does not cover water damage under its warranty.

Oneplus8 pro:

The One plus 8pro is water-resistant with IP68 ratings tested under controlled IEC 60529 laboratory conditions. According to its advertisement where the phone was dunked in a bowl of water. The mobile is water-resistant but not completely waterproof like iPhone 11 pro max and Samsung galaxy s20 ultra. The company has also said that the water and dust resistance may be reduced as device ages.

Samsung galaxy s20 plus:

Samsung galaxy s20 plus has an IP168 rating which means that the phone can survive in a maximum depth of 5 feet ( 1.5 meters) water for around 30 minutes. Like other phones of Samsung, Samsung galaxy s20 plus should also be protected against deep water to avoid any damage. However, if water or liquid is spilled over the phone accidentally, there are no chances of harm to the phone.

Google Pixel 4XL:

Similar to the Samsung galaxy s20 and other phones in this range, Google pixel 4XL also has an IP68 rating. The phone can survive in a maximum depth of 5 feet water for almost 30 minutes. The water resistance can decrease due to the wear and tear over time.

Samsung galaxy s10:

Samsung galaxy s10 is also one of the waterproof mobiles of 2020. The phone has an IP68 rating tested under controlled laboratory conditions. It can survive up to 30 minutes in the maximum depth of 5 feet water. The company does not cover the damage due to the liquid in the warranty. Hence the phone should be protected with a waterproof phone case.

iPhone SE 2020:

iPhone SE is splash, water, and dust-proof and checked under-regulated laboratory conditions with IP67 certification in compliance with IEC 60529. The phone can survive the maximum depth of 1 meter up to 30 minutes. Splash, water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions, and resistance can decrease as a result of regular wear. The same precautionary steps are to be followed which are already mentioned in the iPhone 11 pro max section.

Samsung galaxy note 10:

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is also water-resistant, with an IP68 certification that enables submersion in 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. However, Samsung has warned the users not to use the mobile in the pool as loss due to water will not be covered in the warranty.

If you buy a waterproof smartphone don’t be so confident of its longevity in water just because the manufacturer has said so. As stated earlier, water and dust resistance reduce due to wear and tear over time. As a consequence, you can not expect your mobile to function in a certain way during its life. When you buy a waterproof cell phone, get a waterproof case for your mobile phone to prevent any harm to your device. Please keep in mind that a waterproof phone does not involve bringing or using a phone in the pool because even waterproof cell phones can survive water up to a certain level. Cell phone companies do not compensate for the harm done by liquid spillage.
